Apparently there's a lot you can do with 5min.com, although for now I've only just peeked at the section on origami. Nice.
Dteve Dembo asked for Eduversions of popular web 2.0 sites, and it looks like he's already found one!
TeacherTube seems slower than it's mainstream counterpart, but the videos appear safe.
Every now and then you need a quick and easy lesson on dinosaurs. Like this one from the Creativity Portal, for instance. Cut it out and add a couple pipe cleaner legs like they show you to get a simple sculpture, or leave it on the paper & add a cool background. It's up to you!
I have a better idea for my background though. A while ago when I was cleaning my office (don't die of shock - sometimes I actually do that) I found a box chock full of styrofoam trays. They're just like the ones kids use for lunch in my schools, except they don't smell like ketchup.
With the use of a pencil, some tempera paint, and a brayer, you can turn a chunk of styrofoam into a great printing plate. It's basically just a larger version of this video lesson.
My goodness, this is funny: A company that manufactures blenders has created a series of video segments where they throw random stuff into a blender and show what happens. If I tried this with my own blender I'd burn out the motor, but their blenders cost several hundred dollars at least so in each case you end up with confetti.
Here are my favorite clips:
I have to try this.
Rather than asking for specific gifts, this year I asked for gift cards. I hit the jackpot, meaning I received (among other things) $200 in gift cards for the Apple store. When you couple that with an educator's discount I think I did pretty well.
But now I need to use them. I've already purchased a new case for my iPod (it really needed one, trust me), but there's more than one big purchase I've had my eye on.
I first thought about buying an external hard drive for backup purposes, and this 320 GB model will more than fit the bill for both my wife and myself. Our primary computers are laptops, so space is at a premium sometimes.
Then I thought "Hey, why not get a DVD burner instead?" While individual DVDs aren't nearly as big as external hard drives, you can use an unlimited number of them.
Finally, I remembered that Apple's online store also sells video cameras. I've wanted something like this for years now, and the Apple gift cards finally bring it into my price range. The down side for this one is if I get it I won't have the cash to buy more storage space, but I still have my laptop's built in CD burner so it's not like I'm totally out of luck.
I'm leaning towards the camera, but I haven't decided yet. Any thoughts?
