It figures .... Yesterday I was trying to research ideas for some new art lessons, and instead I came across this kid-friendly site. It has flash animations, games, printable activities, and more.
Like many sites I link to here on Vox I haven't played with everything on it as of yet. Still, the Closed Captioning feature and the different categories separated by subject look promising, and the "Movie of the Week" of George Washington Carver was both appropriate for school and animated well.
There's a bit of a learning curve, enough so that I don't think I could use it with my elementary kids. Well ... maybe 6th grade. Still, I like the results. The movie here is the most sophisticated thing I've tried so far that's come out close to the way I wanted.
There's more I want to do with this program, I just need to keep working at it.
Kevin's kids have been making some great stop motion animations. I love projects where the adult steps back and helps when needed but otherwise lets the kids do what they want - the results are often quite imaginative.
My Art Club kids have been working on animations as well, and while they're much more simple, I like them. You can see the two I've uploaded so far by going here. I've got more to upload, but I'll do that later.
Now this is cool. A tourist took some pictures of the Pyramids of Giza. That's neat by itself, but that tourist kept taking over 600 pictures while walking around the whole site. After stitching them together into an animation, this was the result.
I'm giving them longer than 45 minutes.
